I don't want to backpack necessarily, but with only 2 of us, we don't need a ton of stuff to bring. There are camping backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, lanterns... Everything you need! I need some advice though. I have only been camping with family or friends and have never been alone. What are some things I shouldn't forget? What are some tips you all have? How about some places to try? Eastern Oregon? Coast? Southern Oregon?
I am so excited to actually execute a couple camping road trips with my hubby. I want to take advantage of the few years we have without kids, and this is a beginning. :)
Depending on what you want to eat/how you plan on making food, you'll want a cooking pot and coffee pot that you can easily get the smoke off of. Blue enamel ones work pretty well. Big pots help with washing dishes, but IDK, you might just go with all disposable stuff. Cooking in foil is pretty fun too...
ReplyDeletePropane lanterns with disposable mantles tend to be more convenient and easier to light than kerosene(or whatever other fuel it uses) ones.
If you buy a tent, go for one with a full flyleaf and a built in tarp (most modern tents have this, but some really old ones don't). Unless you become an intense camping enthusiast, you might just want to borrow someone else's tent.
You probably don't need backpacks unless you go backpacking. Regular lugguage is fine if all you have to do is drag it 20 feet from your car to your site.
Check out temperature ratings for sleeping bags. If it's hard to understand, there are a jillion sites online that could explain it. I personally like sleeping bags with slick exteriors because less junk gets stuck to them.
Wow, that sounds like a great thing to do with your hubby, I hope you guys have a blast:)
