Hey, Mamas, I Need You

I cannot believe how many of my friends and family are having babies...
My sister, my aunt, my cousin, and at least 3 friends I can think of just off the top of my head.

I am not pregnant, by the way, but it seems as though everyone around me is.

The interesting part is that as I talk with these pregnant mamas and hear some of the advice given to them, it is amazing to me..

Too much negativity. "Get your sleep now while you can" and "Labor is the worst pain I have ever been in..." Another one that happens a lot is "good luck". The one that I love the most? "Say goodbye to your husband".

Are babies easy? I can't say from experience, but I don't think they're easy. But I have heard they are worth it. Why not focus on some of the positives of motherhood? Why not focus on the good things about pregnancy? It makes women like me who want kids someday feel freaked out. Like "Look at all the crap you get to look forward to with nothing really good in return".

All throughout facebook, I read posts about the hardships of parenthood - and believe me, I appreciate the honesty, I appreciate the reality - but mamas, how about you comment and tell me your favorite parts of parenthood, tell me if its all worth it, tell me the positives. Help a sister out.

  1. They are the most time consuming hard job you will have. You will worry about them always, wonder if you did a good job. On the other hand it is the most joy filled, laughter filled, rewarding job you will ever have. Every 1st is like seeing the world anew. Each tear you dry, each moment of triumph . Having your children growing up being productive, God serving, people loving adults, is a moment worth all the other stuff that happens along the way. The sleepless nights, the worry, the no time for yourself. It all drifts to nothing. It is like each day is new and filled with wonder and awe. My advice, enjoy each moment, cause they seem to pass quickly.

  2. Every time we sit down for a meal, Jordana holds my hand and asks to pray. Ari is so compassionate. He will hug and kiss you at the appearance of a grievance. When they are so sleepy that they lay their heads on your shoulder and wrap their arms around your neck....well, I melt every time! When I feel aweful, but my kids tell/show me I'm beautiful, I am humbled. And I love to see their joy at so many simple things in life, like playing in water, peekaboo, tickle fights, peanut butter "swamaches"...also the way they say sandwiches! Lol! Watching them learn something new is inspiring! Hearing them sing, watching them dance (ari, BTW, has got moves you've got to see to believe!), getting to know who God created them to be- its all incredible! No, its not easy, but it is beyond amazing!!!

  3. (I just wrote a long blog but I think it got erased... so here is a shortened version..) There is SO much support and information out there for all different parenting stages! :D You don't have to worry about what-ifs.. because someone has probably felt what you feel and have advice to help you. The labor part is really not that bad!!!! I exercised and at well and had a labor that was under 6 hours from start to finish.. pushing only for 10 minutes with a healthy baby and a smooth recovery! You can try natural, but epidurals are there if you feel like you need a break. After the labor part, everything gets better! It's the most incredible feeling to look at the special person YOU helped create! Maternal instincts kick in and before you know it you are flying through the first year. Changes happen quickly so cherish and take lots of pictures... but it's hard to remember because you have so much fun and enjoy so much of that time with your baby. You are making history everyday by leading a legacy for someone... and that is one of the most fulfilling achievements in life. For example, Emma knows how to sing and pray many prayers in hebrew! She will grow up walking in the statutes and love of God for the rest of her life and it starts the day they are born. You will be able to teach and guide your children to a wholesome life for God. Hopefully soon we will see your little legacy(ies), the sky is the limit! <3
